In 1988, it was moved to the current area and renamed "Taoyuan Tourist Night Market".
Its total length is about 3 km. There are more than 200 stalls here. Most of the stalls are focused on traditional cuisine and snacks. Here you can taste local dishes from all regions of Taiwan and China, especially fried fresh seafood, desserts, steamed vegetables and grilled snacks. You can also find numerous old eateries that have been operating since the very beginning of the existence of this place. The building appeared here in 1934. Initially, it was made of bamboo and wood and was one of the main passages for the inhabitants of Daxi to the outside world. It also connected areas to the east and west. During the Japanese colonial era, the bridge was transformed into a double-slope cable-stayed suspension bridge with a total length of 280 meters. And since then, its current appearance has changed little. Gradually, the building fell into disrepair. Due to typhoon damage, it was reconstructed twice. The last construction work took place in 2001. Now it is made of reinforced concrete and has 13 pillars. The total length is 330 meters.
The renovated Daxi Bridge resembles more of an old suspension bridge from the Japanese colonial era. The entrance has a vintage arched design added to the carved domed ceiling which is just gorgeous. You can also see baroque frescoes on the arch, and the red tiles that pave the bridge itself are reminiscent of the street style of the old Daxi district. Benches have been installed on the structure so that you can relax and enjoy the views.
The landscapes here are truly breathtaking. From here you can admire the splendor of Shihmen Dam and Mount Guanyin in the distance. On both sides of the bridge, you can also see other structures - the Wulin Bridge and Kanjin.
It is also worth visiting after sunset. Locals say it's the perfect place to watch the sunset. In the evening, when the lights are on, the bridge looks especially bright and alive, creating an exotic atmosphere. That is why it is also known as the "Bridge of Lovers" and attracts many enthusiastic photographers. On weekends and holidays, you can see street performers here who are happy to demonstrate their skills and entertain tourists.
