Vyborg, whose webcams can be viewed on this site, is a cozy suburb of St. Petersburg.
It was founded by the Swedes during the Middle Ages. And from the beginning of the 18th century it was part of the Russian Empire. After the October Revolution, the city fell under the jurisprudence of Finland. And after the Great Patriotic War he passed to the USSR.
Although Vyborg is a Russian city, a huge number of architectural monuments of the Swedish and Finnish periods have been preserved here.
It will be unrealistic to cover them in one day. Therefore, it is recommended to spend at least a couple of days in Vyborg. One of the most interesting sights of this city is the local castle. It belongs to the era of the rule of these lands by the Swedish monarch. The estimated period of construction is the end of the 13th century. The castle was built during the Third Crusade to Karelia. Today, a unique museum exposition is located in its bastions. The center of attraction for tourists is also the Olaf Tower with its observation deck, which offers views of the city from a height of 48 meters.
The second of the surviving towers of the Vyborg castle is called "Round". Once she defended the fortress from the attack of the Russian army. The tower was built much later than the main building, in the middle of the 16th century. It is noteworthy that the structure is based on an oval, not a circle.
After the Round Tower lost its strategic importance, they wanted to demolish it. However, on the recommendation of the local architect Uno Ulberg, they decided to keep the building in order to hold meetings of the Technical Club here in the future.
The name of one of the Vyborg parks "Mon Repos" translates as "my peace".
This is the only rocky park on the territory of modern Russia, which was founded in the middle of the 18th century.
After the overthrow of the last emperor of the Russian Empire, a kindergarten and a sanatorium were located on the territory of the park. This complex became a museum-reserve only at the end of the last century, on the eve of the collapse of the USSR, when churches were returned to believers throughout the country.
In addition to the unique rock ensemble, several interesting classical-style structures have been built on the territory of the park. Also here you can see the mystical island-necropolis of Ludwigstein. It should be borne in mind that this place is closed for free visits, so you can only see it from afar.
If you still can't get to this picturesque city at all, Vyborg webcams will allow you to enjoy a wonderful virtual walk.
