Vinnitsa, Ukraine,one of the major city and administrative center of the homonymous region. Vinnytsia is an ancient city that has survived a long history, has repeatedly suffered seizures and passed in various States. The city is situated on the river southern bug. Earlier there were ancient settlements of the Slavic tribes. In the beginning the city was part of Galicia-Volyn Principality, and later passed to the Polish, Lithuanian, Mongol-Tatar. In town the period of conquest was built a stone fortress with fortified walls, but it didn't last, and was destroyed the next raids. During the revolution in the city and throughout the Ukrainian state were disturbances and uprisings. Finally, the Soviet power was established in the city in 1919.
