Kalkan is a cozy and picturesque Turkish resort covering the Mediterranean coastline. And, although there are no outstanding sights, an abundance of architectural monuments, a mild climate, an excellent tourist infrastructure, a variety of hotels, apartments and catering establishments make this place a comfortable place to stay.
One of the outstanding settlements in the vicinity of Kalkan is Patara, where, in addition to the beautiful beach for family holidays, there are many locations worthy of being seen by everyone, at least once in a lifetime.
For a long time this place was subjected to numerous pirate raids. But in the 10th century, Patara became a major naval base of the Byzantine Empire. At the same time, problems with the population size did not leave this place and since the 15th century it fell into desolation.
Today Patara is almost completely hidden under quicksand. But according to the results of recent excavations, unique finds were presented to the world. This is the building of the city parliament, where the entire Lycian elite once sat, as well as semicircular stone rows of seats and arched entrances to the hall. A large throne chair was also discovered, on which, according to experts, Lyciarchus himself sat. Other amazing finds include the remains of the world's oldest lighthouse, which was built almost 2,000 years ago.
The village of Bezirgan, located near Kalkan, has a unique flavor. Time seems to be slowing down here, and the locals continue to lead the way of life that was formed here almost 100 years ago and has changed little since that time. To this day, they are engaged in agriculture, using the skills that were used by their ancestors.
In Bezirgan, you can fully enjoy Turkish hospitality. Here you can endlessly admire the charming village houses, the process of shearing livestock, planting crops or harvesting.
A leisurely walk can be completed in one of the many tea houses, where the traveler can enjoy the taste and aroma of this amazing drink, the beauty of simple things, and the flavor of local culture.
Fans of valuable fish species are advised to visit the Islamlar Mountain Trout Farm, which is located 15-20 minutes' drive from Kalkan. On the territory of the trout farm, there are restaurants where you can taste freshly caught fish, which is grown here in pools filled with mountain water. The meal will be complemented by a unique mountain landscape, and the shade from the dense crowns will give the long-awaited coolness and relaxation from the summer heat.
