The online broadcast of the port city of Bastia is the former administrative and current economic capital of Upper Corsica. The bulk of ferries from the continent arrive here, not far from Bastia, one of the island's main airports.
If you go north from Bastia, you will get to the peninsula of Cap Kors, it is impossible to make a mistake, the road is only one, along the sea. However, most visitors turn south to Ajachcio, Porto Vecchio, Calvi. If you do not turn anywhere, and coming off the ferry, look right in front of you, you will see the whole city. As is usually the case in Corsica, Bastia is built from the bottom up, terraces.
Right at the port - a huge square of St. Nicholas, where all the holidays are held, and in winter flooded the ice rink. By the way, there is also a tourism office on the square, and if you are not too determined with the route to Corsica, it makes sense to go there. The office answers any questions, give free maps and prospectuses and, not for free - bikes for hire.
If you walk to the left, you will come a hundred meters to the Old Port (le Vieux-Port), where yachts doze off and over which hangs the ancient citadel (Terra-Nova) of the city. The citadel, as well as the palace of the Rulers (le palais des Gouverneurs) are considered the main attractions, but about it is a little lower.
The area around the Old Port is crammed with bars, restaurants and discotheques, and the local Tverskaya is Boulevard Paoli, with its cluster of expensive boutiques.
The traditional place where the townspeople go for a swim in the summer is the 16-kilometer coast of La Marana, south of Bastia. The sandy beach is framed by shady pine forest, and the beach has restaurants and bars.
