On a huge flat hill 180 kilometers from Ufa, rich oil deposits were discovered in the 1930s. In 1937, the construction of the Tuimazaneft trust and a workers' camp for oil workers began here. Many people came from all over the country to develop oil wells, but at first there was not enough housing, not to mention basic living conditions. The workers had to live in dugouts or ask for lodging for the night with the local villagers.
The settlement grew rapidly, the first barracks appeared, and then wooden houses. At that time there was no time to think about the layout of city streets, they built a lot and from what they would have to. The first street of Oktyabrsky has retained its historical name - Devonskaya, but not its original appearance. The local administration is taking all possible measures to clean up the environment: a pumping station has been built that allows using the gas produced together with oil and reducing its emissions. An oil sludge processing plant has also been launched and an extensive greening program for the city is planned.
