The web camera online broadcasts a view of the embankment in the city of Lensk (Russia).
The lens captures the promenade, the water area of the Lena River, as well as the landscaped square adjacent to the embankment with the famous Troika monument. The broadcast is conducted in real time with musical accompaniment.
Lensk, whose webcams can be viewed online on this site, is the administrative center of the Lensky district, which is considered the fifth largest in all of Yakutia, despite the fact that its size is rather modest.
This cozy town is located on the banks of the Lena River, which is known for its powerful ice formation, which is formed as a result of a very frosty and long winter with a minimum amount of precipitation, typical for local times. For the same reason, the spring thaw in Lensk is characterized by the strongest ice drift, which is accompanied by floods and ice jams. This is exactly what happened at the beginning of the III millennium, which made Lensk famous not only in Russia, but also abroad. In May 2001, the worst flood in the history of the country occurred, as a result of which Lensk was practically wiped off the face of the Earth.
Water arrived at such a speed that in three days almost the entire city was under water. Along with the flood, the movement of giant blocks of ice at high speed was noted. These masses swept away everything in their path. Combat bombers had to break through icy drains and ice jams. And after the elimination of the emergency, the city was rebuilt almost from scratch.
Today, Lensk is a small, not particularly different town with quiet streets, a private sector, and small apartment buildings. Among the attractive factors of Lensk is its clean taiga air and beautiful nature near the city outskirts.
The key attraction of the city of Lensk is the embankment near the Lena River.
The left bank of the reservoir, where Lensk is located, is a picturesque and pleasant place for walking. The well-maintained promenade stretches for almost 3 km along the coast and is at the same time a recreational area and a flood protection structure. Like many other buildings in the city, it was rebuilt. Because in 2001 it was completely destroyed by ice streams that poured into the city. At the same time, several nine-story houses were erected next to the embankment, which, together with the renovated embankment, became a real symbol of the city. At the top of the frontal part of each of these houses, a separate letter is applied. Together they form the name of the city of Lensk, whose webcams can be viewed in real time from anywhere in the world.
