The Seattle, Washington Central Waterfront is considered the most urbanized part of the Elliott Coast. It stretches from Pioneer Square, past the city center to Broad Street with the Olympic Sculpture Park.
In the old days, port life was in full swing here. But after the construction of a container port in the south of the city, this place began to be used for recreation and trade. Already in our century, on the quays built more than 100 years ago, shops, cafes and restaurants appeared, next to which picturesque parks turn green, the Ferris wheel revolves, the city aquarium invites you to plunge into the world of underwater inhabitants. A unique surface hotel is also located here.
Several docks on Central Quay are still subordinate to the Port of Seattle. These include berths for cruise ships and firefighters, ferry crossings. There are many architectural monuments near the docks, as well as several manufacturing and marine enterprises.
The Seattle waterfront offers a wealth of breathtaking views. For example, from here you can see the Space Needle - the most recognizable landmark in the entire Northwest Pacific coast of the United States. It is an 184-meter tower with a total weight of over 9.5 thousand tons. Despite its sleek silhouette, it was built to withstand hurricanes up to 320 km / h, earthquakes over magnitude 9, and lightning strikes.
An interesting feature of the tower is the revolving restaurant, which is located at the top of the "Space Needle" and is popularly called its eye. The real name of the establishment is Sky City. Nearby there is an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the city from a height of 159 meters above sea level. In addition to the central part of Seattle, from here you can see the Cascade Mountains, the volcano, the water area of Eliot Bay with the surrounding islands.
It also houses a stunning gift boutique.
Another beautiful building that can be seen from the waterfront is the Qwest Field sports stadium, which has a capacity of over 67,000 spectators.
The tallest building in the city is the Bank of America Tower. Its height reaches almost 304 meters, and its area is about 458 thousand m2. On its construction, which lasted 3 years, 200 million dollars were spent. Standing out with its dark, austere silhouette against the white skyscrapers visible from the waterfront, this structure is one of the tallest buildings in the US Pacific Northwest.
