Traces of the first settlers date back to the early Stone Age. During Roman times, the city was called Veldidena and became an important supply base for the Romans after they built a road over the Brenner Pass in the 15th century. BC. The name Innsbruck originated in 1187 when the Inn Bridge was built. In 1429, the city became the capital of Tyrol under Maximilian I. Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976 and thus became the famous (winter) sports destination that it is today.

After that, take the cable car from the city center and in just 20 minutes reach the Seegrube at an altitude of 2000 m. Want some imperial splendor? With its incredible gardens, small waterfalls and free-range peacocks, Ambras Castle will take you back to the Renaissance period. The Imperial Palace, Ottoburg and the Wilten Basilica tell of Innsbruck's eventful past and its great figures, including the Filipino Welser, the secret wife of Archduke Ferdinand I, Andreas Hofer, Tyrol's freedom fighter, and last but not least Emperor Maximilian I, who built many of the monuments that have survived to this day.

The Imperial Palace is a beautiful and elaborate Gothic style castle with large representative rooms, a chapel, a modern and heated banquet hall, an office and a traditional drawing room with large windows, a spiral staircase, wall coverings and an extended bed. Interestingly, Archduke Sigmund integrated three outstanding structural elements of the medieval city fortification into the construction of the imperial palace: the medieval city wall, two city towers and nearby houses, which can still be seen today.
Another place is the Imperial Church. Nearly half a millennium ago, Ferdinand I built the Hofkirche (court church) of Innsbruck, a Gothic monument to his grandfather Maximilian I.
