Live webcams Ferrara - views of northern Italy

Ferrara webcams, which you can watch online on this site, will help you immerse yourself in the amazing atmosphere of Italian streets with ancient architecture, picturesque parks, colorful monuments. The city is located a few kilometers from Bologna, stretching along the Po River.
The centuries-old palaces and castles of the Este dynasty have been preserved here to this day. So, in the center of the city is the Ducal Castle of St. Michael, built in the XII century to protect the ruling family from the uprising of local residents. The building is a huge stone fortress with powerful walls and towers. Today it is open to the public. Tourists can explore both the exterior of the castle and stroll through its numerous halls, rooms with marble balconies overlooking the square and observation roof terraces.
Of particular interest are the painted ceilings in the Golden Room and in the apartments of the Duke's wife, decorated with painted panels created by Renaissance masters.
Other popular attractions can also be found in the historic heart of Ferrara. Most of them border the central square of Trento and Trieste. On one side, it is surrounded by the Ducal Castle and the Cathedral. On the other, there is a large-scale arcade "Loggia of Merchants", where tiny shops and cafes are located. The square was developed back in the Middle Ages and was the center of the region's government. Here not only the castle of the Duke of Este towered, but also the palace of bishops and Justice.

To get acquainted with the history of the city will help not only Ferrara webcams, which you can watch online without leaving your home right on this page, but also the Archaeological Museum

The institution has several names. Usually it is called the palace of Ludovico il Moro, although it was built at the direction and at the expense of another nobleman - Antonio Costabili.
Despite the disagreements in the name, this does not prevent the palace, built in the 15th century, from perfectly preserved to our time and delighting the eyes of tourists and local residents with the splendor of its architecture. A notable element of the building is the early trompe l'oeil frescoes.
The exposition of the Archaeological Museum includes artifacts discovered during excavations of the nearby Greco-Etruscan city of Spina. It was a thriving settlement of the 6th-3rd centuries BC, which developed rapidly through trade and could have existed for a long time if it had not been for the terrible flood that wiped out this place from the face of the earth by the Po River.
Archaeological research began here at the beginning of the 20th century. On the territory of the once prosperous shopping center, perfectly preserved vases, oil cans, made in the form of animal figures, were found. The Museum's Golden Hall displays a unique collection of jewelry made of gold, silver, amber and glass, which were created by Greek and Etruscan jewelers. Of particular interest are also boats from the late Roman period of the Spina, which are located in the Hall of Treasures, richly decorated with ancient frescoes.

Other attractions in Ferrara include the Cathedral of Saint George

It also dominates the historic heart of the city, near the Este Castle. The architecture of the building has incorporated several styles. The lower level of the façade has features of the Romanesque style of the beginning of the 12th century. After about 4 centuries, loggias made in the early Gothic style appeared here. And even later, a huge bell tower was built of pink and white marble, embodying the architectural tradition of the Renaissance.
The “Loggia of Merchants” departs from the castle, over which two galleries with columns rise. Above the central loggia, a scene of the Last Judgment is carved out of stone, with the dressed crowned going to heaven and naked sinners falling down. The author of this relief image remains unknown.
The Diamond Palace has unique facades. Its walls are covered with faceted marble blocks resembling stone diamonds. There are about 8,500 such blocks on the walls of the palace. The architectural composition of the building has features of the early Renaissance. Today, it houses the National Pinakothek, which exhibits works by local masters of the 13th-17th centuries. On the upper level, in the Gallery of Modern Art, you can see examples of Post-Impressionism and other later styles of visual art.
One of the most unusual features of Ferrara is the interweaving of medieval and Renaissance styles that are reflected in the streets of the city. To feel this peculiarity, you should definitely walk along one of the longest arteries of the city, Via delle Volte, paved with rounded cobblestones, over which arched tunnels rise between the rows of houses.
If it is not yet possible to go to Italy, Ferrara's webcams, which you can watch online in real time, will immerse you in the amazing color of this city literally in “two clicks”.
