Weser Tower is outside the historic centre of Bremen. The building was built in 2007-2010 on the embankment of the Weser River, designed by the American architect of German origin Helmut Jahn, who since 1983 heads the architectural firm Murphy and Jahn, which is engaged in the construction of buildings around the world. In Germany, helmut Jan's project has built several buildings that have received international recognition. Among them are the Fair Tower, built in 1985-91 in Frankfurt, and the Sony Center with the Bahn Tower, built in 1993-2000 in Potsdam Square in Berlin. Also projects by Helmut Jan and his company are the building of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (1995-2005) and the Veer Towers complex, built in Las Vegas in 2006-2010. In 1983, Helmut Jan was awarded the title of honorary member of the Association of German Architects BDA. Currently, Murphy's Company and Yang have offices in Chicago, Berlin and Shanghai.
The foundation of the Weser Tower was laid on October 23, 2007. The developer was forced to demolish several port warehouses under the construction site of the future architectural masterpiece.
The 22-storey skyscraper is 82 meters high and has a total area of 18,000 square meters. Weser Tower has offices, a hotel, a theatre and several restaurants.
The building is notable for the fact that its facade has a continuous glazing, so from the windows of almost all offices offer panoramic views of the harbor area and the whole city.
Construction company Siedentopf GmbH has invested about 70 million euros in the development of the infrastructure of the embankment of the River Weser to the west of the historic city center of Bremen. The main tenant of the Weser Tower is a subsidiary of the energy company EWE AG, occupying a total of 13 floors of the skyscraper.
