Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States and one of the youngest. Many colleges and universities shape the historical capital and serve as a stimulus for the development of the arts and entertainment industry. Waves of immigration, especially the Irish in the middle of the XVIII century, and Italian in the early twentieth century, brought to the city a European influence. Today, Boston remains at the forefront in the field of higher education, its universities — the birthplace of world-famous enterprises engaged in biotechnology, medicine and Finance.
