Ankara,Turkeysecond city in Turkey after Istanbul. When in 1923, President Kemal Ataturk made Ankara the capital, it was a small town whose residents numbered barely 60 thousand people. Despite the modest sizes, Ankara is an ancient city. In the year 1200 BC, the Fort was a refuge for acrawsa residents. Ankara is remote from the water lines, but its location is hard to call unprofitable. Ankara was located on the crossroads of overland trade paths, and why even in the Roman era was a thriving political center. A new impetus to the formation of the city brought the building in 1893 of the Anatolian railway, uniting Ankara with Istanbul. Nowadays Ankara is a city of ministries, universities and embassies, with about 2.6 million population. One of the most interesting monuments telling the story of the city is the Fortress or Citadel, which covers the double ring fortificarion walls. The outer ring, which surrounds the fortress, was built in the IX century, when the ruler Michael II. The interior walls belong to the sixth century. The stones for the construction of two rings of walls were taken from the ruins of the old ancient buildings.
