History of the city of Benicasim
- The founding of the city dates back to the period of Muslim rule. At this time, a powerful castle was erected here, inhabited until the end of the 15th century.
- After the conquest of these lands in 1242, King Jaime I of Aragon donated the castle to his scribe Pedro Sans as a token of special gratitude for the services rendered during the Reconquista. Since that time, the city has changed many owners. In 1769, a church was founded here, which led to the expansion of the city and the increase in the population of Benicasim.
- From about 1850 tourism began to develop in the city. The first hotel was opened in 1887, and today the city is known all over the world as one of the best resorts in Spain.

In the 17th century, the fortress lost its significance, was abandoned, only the remains of a once powerful fortification have survived to our time.
