Sestriere, a famous Alpine village in the province of Turin (Piedmont, Italy). It is situated in Val Susa, 17 km from the French border. Sestriere with a population of only 800 people, is located at an altitude of 2035 metres above sea level on the mountain pass between the valleys of Val Chisone and Val Susa and completely surrounded by mountains.
On the structure of Sestriere is divided into several smaller villages: Sestriere Colle, on the pass top, Sestriere Borgata, in Val Chisone, Champlas du Col and Champlas Janvier, in Val Suzie.
The first ski facilities of Sestriere was built by Giovanni Agnelli ( owner of Fiat) in 1930 and was further developed after the Second world war by his nephew Giovanni Nasi.
Sestriere is the most popular skiing resort; during the winter holidays the population increases up to 20,000 people. Together with the Italian villages of Pragelato, Sauza d'oulx, Claviere, Cesana Torinese, San Sicario and Montgenèvre French, it forms the largest in Italy joint ski area via Lattea (milky Way). Via Lattea offers its guests 400km of slopes of different difficulty levels.
