Japan plans to enter the departure tax for tourists
Edition The Japan Times reported that since the beginning of 2019 tourists who leave the country, will pay a new tax.
The governmentJapanalready adopted the law, which reglamentary the tax payment. Since January 7, every guest of the country, which shall enter on a tourist visa, will have to pay the sum of 1,000 yen (in dollar terms – about $ 9). Payment is made upon departure from the airport or seaport of the country.
The government believes that the new tax could bring in Treasury about 43 million yen. It is expected that the money will be spent to create new infrastructure and improve the quality of service offered to tourists in the country. Most of the funds will be spent to host the Olympic games in 2020.
A fee will be charged from tourists under 2 years and passengers who are in the country of transit. However, transit passengers in the country should not exceed a period of 24 hours. Tourist tax is included in the ticket price.
The government expects that in 2020 the flow of tourists will reach about 40 million tourists a year. It is worth noting that last year Japan was visited by more than 77 thousand people.
