How to behave during turbulence to save your nerves and avoid injury

How to behave during turbulence to save your nerves and avoid injury First of all, it is worth understanding that there are two turbulences. The first type is clear sky turbulence, which occurs due to the sudden appearance of cumulus clouds or jet streams that move at very high speeds, as well as other atmospheric phenomena. They are difficult to notice not only with the naked eye, but even with the help of instruments. They usually pass very quickly and do not cause much discomfort.

The second type of turbulence is convective (thermal). It occurs due to uneven heating of the earth's surface, which leads to the appearance of vertical flows that can form at any height. Such turbulence is determined by the time of day or season. It can also be stronger or longer. The most pronounced turbulence occurs during a storm or other bad weather. And the wind currents rise and fall abruptly and chaotically. Because of this, there is an uneven pressure on the hull of the vessel, including the wings, which is manifested by sharp shocks inside the cabin.

The crew working on the planes do not consider turbulence to be something out of the ordinary. Moreover, modern airliners are built to deal with the occurrence of severe and prolonged turbulence. Therefore, they can overcome such a phenomenon without damage, tipping or falling. But even being prepared for such an unpleasant situation, pilots always try to maneuver in such a way as to overcome or prevent it as soon as possible. For this, special software, radars, communication with meteorologists and airline dispatchers are used. This allows you to either fly around the turbulence zone, or move to a different height, so that the effect of hitting a dangerous area is minimized.

Flight attendants also warn passengers before expecting "bumps" on the route. At the same time, such a probability in most flights occurs literally every 15 minutes. However, the degree of reality of the danger is not always too high and most passages of the zone of possible occurrence of turbulence are "asymptomatic".

The next article will give advice on how to behave in order to avoid negative consequences when entering a turbulence zone.
