How and when did tourism appear in the world. History of the development of travel. Part 2 The era of the Middle Ages, quite naturally, did not have the best effect on world tourism. In those days, traveling was not only difficult, but also dangerous. At the same time, it did not matter at all what the trip was connected with - with trade or tourism.

In those days, only the hottest heads were allowed to travel, dreaming of gaining fame and fortune. Minstrels also earned their living, as well as wandering players. Various voyages were not alien to missionaries, representatives of the clergy, and pilgrims. Europeans opened a trade sea route to India, but accidentally discovered America and partially explored Africa.

In India itself, tourism for pleasure was born during this period. Wealthy Mughals erected palaces and luxurious gardens for themselves in the most picturesque places. So, for example, Jehangir traveled to Kashmir, which struck him with its beauty.

In the 17th century, a completely new direction of travel appeared, which marked the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. At this time, famous for the reign of Elizabeth I, a new trend appeared - to send young lawyers to the “mainland” to complete their education.

A little later to finish education, going on a Grand Tour for several years, has become commonplace. The young men went on their educational journey, accompanied by a tutor, and, along with education, received real pleasure from life in Paris, Florence, Venice.

In the 18th century, such trips were made exclusively by the nobility. But later educational tours were replaced by simple travel as a hobby and pleasure.

In the same period of time, travel to the continent as wellness tours was popularized in the UK. After all, mineral springs and healing mud began to be discovered everywhere. At the same time, treatment at resorts, as well as educational trips, have become an indicator of wealth and a high position in society.

In the era of Napoleon, travel was forgotten for almost 3 decades. Therefore, the tradition of Grand Tours has been largely lost.

With the advent of the 19th century, travelers began to gradually move towards the sea. Along the coasts, rest houses and medical institutions were opened. And the sea and sand began to be associated with strength and a healthy lifestyle.
