The town of Melitopol, whose webcams can be viewed on this site, is located in the Zaporozhye region on the banks of the Molochnaya River.

Its history begins with the small Nogai village of Kyzyl-Yar. During the war between the Russians and the Turks, active land development began. The troops set up a redoubt here, in which the Zaporozhye Cossacks served.
In 1784, the village of Novoaleksandrovskaya Sloboda was founded here. Since every year more and more people from the northern regions of Ukraine and Russia moved here, the settlement was given the status of a city and renamed Melitopol. There is a version that it received such a name in honor of the ancient city of Melita.
By the end of the XIX century. the city becomes the center of trade and industry. Banking and credit institutions, warehouses, an iron foundry and an engineering plant, as well as various workshops operated here.
Following the development of the industrial sector, the formation of culture and recreation began. At the beginning of the XX century. one of the local entrepreneurs, Ilya Stamboli, built the first Winter Theater, a cinema, and a summer stage. Also, large agricultural exhibitions began to be held here.

Melitopol, the main streets of which can now be viewed online on webcams, has an interesting history during the 1917 revolution and the Civil War.

Initially, the Bolsheviks tried to seize power, but then the city managed to visit under the leadership of Hetman Skoropadsky, General Denikin, Baron Wrangel, and then he again came under the command of the Red Army.
During the occupation, the city was the center of the Crimea-Tavria district. The Nazis located here most of the administrative and security agencies, and on the territory of many factories they set up prisons and concentration camps. After the liberation, as in many cities of the USSR, the reconstruction and restoration of Melitopol began. The city began to grow, and mechanical engineering became the main direction of the industry. The development of agriculture also began.
During the period of perestroika, a deep crisis began, many enterprises stopped working, but by the beginning of the 2000s, positive changes began.

Now Melitopol is slowly developing, its updated streets and landscaped public spaces can be seen on this site thanks to webcams.
