The Crotone webcam broadcasts a view of the Ampollino Lake area in real time.
This is an artificial lake, which is a reservoir in the historical region of La Sila. Its construction began in 1916 and continued until 1927. King Victor Emmanuel III took part in the opening of the reservoir.
Crotone, whose webcams are available on the site, is located in the east of the Calabria region near the Ionian Sea.
It was founded around 710 BC. like the Achaean colony of Croton. At the same time, in the Middle Ages and until 1928, the city was called Cotron. Historians believe that the period of Magna Graecia may have been the most fruitful in the history of the city. The only symbol of the thousand-year history of the city, the Doric column, has been preserved on Capo Colonna. Starting from the VI century. BC, it was one of the most important religious sites in Ancient Greece, where today the Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna is located.
The Archaeological Museum of Capo Colonna will help the traveler to get acquainted with the ancient place.
It was opened in 2002. The building is divided into three pavilions. The first contains artifacts that arose during the period of Roman rule. The second contains evidence of the sacred area of the Sanctuary. The third shows finds found in the waters of the Ionian Sea. In order to better understand the history of the area, the display is also adorned with panels, multimedia videos, reproductions and other teaching aids.
Among the most valuable exhibits in the museum are a Corinthian bronze helmet from the 5th century, a stone inscribed with the initiation of Feilos (one of the most famous Crotonian athletes) and a small marble sculpture of Eros and Psyche found in the waters off the coast of Crotone. The structure is also surrounded by Hera's garden, composed between pear and apple trees, lily, myrtle and pomegranate.
In addition to the archaeological part of Crotone, whose webcams allow you to walk in real time through the streets, it boasts vast plains.
They are located near the city and you can see them if you move to the sea. At the same time, mountain peaks are not so far away, which together creates a picturesque landscape.
Crotone and its hinterland allow you to enjoy a natural landscape that has been preserved in its original form and is very diverse. Live webcams make it possible to enjoy these landscapes. In summer, you can walk around the old city and see the magnificent architecture, and at the same time swim in the Ionian Sea. But in winter there is something to do here, because there are open slopes nearby, where lovers of skiing, snowboarding and other sports can ride.
