The webcam is online with a live broadcast from Varna, from the perspective of this web camera offers a panoramic view of the southwest of Varna Lake - the bottom of the largest and deepest estuary-type lakes on the entire vast sea coast of Bulgaria. The area of the lake is 17 sq km, the depth varies from 9.5 to 19 meters. The origin of this natural body of water is tectonic.
It is formed from the mouth of the Provadian River, and from the Black Sea the lake is separated by a sandy two-kilometer strip, which regularly increases. The south coast is steep and high, while the northern coast is flat. The lake floor is covered with a thick layer of silt, which in some places reaches 30 meters. In addition, the deepest places of the bottom are covered with hydrogen sulfide mud black. It is used for mud, the mud of Varna Lake is very plastic and warm, which enhances its healing properties.
The temperature of the lake and its salt level are largely influenced by incoming sea water. In spring, the salt of water on the surface decreases, and increases in the summer-autumn period. Due to the predominance of saltwater over fresh, the lake is inhabited only by marine species of fish.
The surface of the water in some places warms up to 25 degrees Celsius. Archaeologists found piles, silicon tools and shuttles on the shores of Lake Varna. It is also noteworthy that on the north side of the lake, in the modern industrial zone of Varna, in 1919, the famous necropolis was accidentally found, the excavations in which are still underway. In addition, one of the elevated shores of the lake overlooks the ruins of the basilica of the Genoese colony.
