The first public building in Italy was the headquarters of the Feltrinelli Foundation. The building was designed by the Herzog & de Meuron bureau, which at one time was famous throughout the country.
The Foundation building has a structure reminiscent of a greenhouse. It consists of elongated, oblique segments. This architectural composition was not chosen by chance. The fact is that there used to be a nursery in this place. And the analogue for the project was the farm houses inherent in the countryside of Lombardy. The sloping roof and sharp corners give this area a contemporary style.
The younger generation and adults will be interested in spending time at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. It is the country's largest cultural and educational institution on this topic. After all, it was in Milan that the great artist and inventor created most of his projects.
The museum exposition is located in the building of an ancient monastery built in the 16th century. It includes over 10 thousand exhibits. These are models, as well as real samples of da Vinci's inventions, created according to his drawings. In the hangar adjacent to the main building, you can see a steam locomotive, an airplane and even the first submarine built in Italy.
In addition to the stunning Duomo, Milan has another outstanding temple. This is the Basilica of St. Ambrose - the patron saint of the city. Within the walls of the church are kept the relics of the saint, who during his lifetime was a famous clergyman and religious figure. It was on his instructions that the first basilica was built on this site, which was later replaced by the temple, which guests and residents of Milan see today.
The basilica is built of red brick in the Lombard-Romanesque style, characterized by its laconicism and elegance at the same time.
The interiors are decorated with an altar inlaid with mosaics and the Golden Throne, created in the 9th century.
To the right of the central entrance are frescoes by Tiepolo. And the walls and dome of the Chapel of San Vittore are decorated with amazingly beautiful mosaics depicting winged monkeys, griffins, which seem to support the vaulted ceiling.
Also recommended to visit is the Church of San Maurizio, built in the 16th century, in a complex with a former Benedictine monastery, the interiors of which are decorated with stunning frescoes by Bernardino Luini, a disciple of the genius da Vinci.
