Mariborgrowing up in a distant XI century, on the hillside, then called "Pyramid" that rises over the Drava river. The Drava river, whose name indirectly from the ancient Indian means "to run", "leak", has a length of over 700 km, and flows in five countries. A considerable portion of its length forms the boundary between Croatia and Hungary. The river plays an important transport role, being navigable. In the city of Maribor is an excellent promenade, lapped by the mentioned river. Due to being so wonderful, the city is sometimes called "Drawsko Venice". In the old days on the waterfront location was crowded Marina, and now is the space through which laid almost all the sightseeing tours, is one of the most popular among tourists. In summer there is the annual international culture festival, and in September, during harvest with the most ancient in Europe, grape vines, there is wine festival. Their development and history Maribor owes its main artery – the Drava river with it slung over her bridges, which provided a surge material resources in the city, despite the fact that in time of war, bridges represent significant obstacles for the defense of the settlements. So, in the early twentieth century was built Dravski Old bridge, which was considered one of the most beautiful in all of Austria-Hungary. And fifty years after its completion, through the Drava in Maribor was built another bridge, which was given the name of Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito. Among other notable places of Maribor, it should be noted the famous Freedom square, with a huge wine cellars, the total area of which is the largest in the Balkans. Here, the square is the bronze monument of National Liberation. Interesting to view also surviving old castle, where now is a modern Museum. Among defensive towers the huge wall which in the Middle ages surrounded the city, preserved water-cart and the Doomsday tower, the Jewish tower from a castle and tower Celosia. Among the religious buildings, the most famous Church. Louis, the Church of St. John the Baptist Church. The barbarians, with four chapels and a Church. Aloysius, with a gorgeous fence made in the Rococo style. Wonderful pastime is guaranteed in the Slovenian national theater, Museum of photography, city art gallery or in a beautiful Park with an aquarium and terrarium. A great medicinal and cosmetic properties of the thermal springs, which are abundant in the city. In the winter season, Maribor transforms into a ski resort, a place for practicing winter sports.
