Then the city council received a memorial statue of the poet Johan Ludwig Runeberg, carved by Walter Runeberg.In 1954, the Fine Arts Committee of the city council was established, which consisted of shop stewards and visual artists. In 1967, Helsinki bought the buildings of Meilahti Manor, where it was decided to reserve the stone building for the needs of the Art Museum. The committee proposed to create an art center here.
In 1975, the construction of the Meilahti Museum began. When it ended, a collection donated by one of the residents was placed here. In subsequent years, new exhibition areas were opened. Now the complex includes three spaces: the Tennis Palace, the Melahti Museum and the Kluuv Gallery.
