The city of Achinsk is situated on the right Bank of the Chulym river at the mouth of the tributary Akinci between Salaray, Catalkoy and Masulli, spurs General view Achinskaya mountains. The history of the city originated in 1683. Started Achinsk with a small jail, grew up on the banks of the river Chulym. The first Russian settlers had appeared in the pristine taiga in the end of XVII century. In 1785 the town of Achinsk was granted a coat of arms depicting a bow and quiver of arrows.
At the end of the XVIII century, in the Achinsk district consisted of 11 parishes, which together with the population of Achinsk lived 17 373 people.
According 1834 Achinsk already had one linen factory, three tanneries, two soap and one candle factory.
Achinsk played the role of a transit point: carts with Chinese products went to town from here to Tobolsk - on ships from Tobolsk carts again went overland to Moscow, Petersburg and other points.
Gradually the city developed as a merchant, living a quiet provincial life with special shocks. Except the Kazan Cathedral, famous guests, passing through Achinsk from time to time, was the town a real event. For example, A. A significant revival in the life of Achinsk in the nineteenth century made the development of transport routes - Moscow highway, then the TRANS-Siberian railway.
During these years, through Achinsk moved to Siberia a huge number of immigrants from the European provinces of Russia, part of them settled in the Achinsk district.
The status of "industrial" came from the city in the postwar years, together with the construction of the country's largest alumina refinery. The development of the industry "completed" appearance of one of the plant - oil refining. These two giants are the main town-forming enterprises.
