The City Of Turkuonce was the capital of Finland, and had a great influence on the development of culture and spiritual sphere of the whole country. Turku was virtually destroyed by fire in the nineteenth century, but soon was brought back to life to become beautiful the capital of the Country of the lakes. Its modern name the city received in the early twentieth century, after the destruction of the Russian Empire, who ruled here for almost a century. Outstanding past left an imprint on the modern image of the city. Now, there are many cultural and historical monuments. And beautiful architecture, mild climate and an abundance of picturesque natural places, round the year attract an audience of many thousands of tourists.
