Sea port of Delfzijl is primarily a port for the chemical, metal and timber. It consists of an outer harbour, with several berths and terminals, and the inner harbour, which communicates directly with the inland navigation network. Marine locks connect the inner and outer harbour. The port is directly linked to the Dutch railway and motorway networks.
In the middle ages in the area were just three of the castle. The good location allowed the town of Delfzijl to develop rapidly as an important port and point of active trading.
In our days the city is the fifth largest port in the Netherlands and still well developed. Here is created a prosperous industrial enterprise, aluminum, steel, and chemical plants. Due to its location in the port city, their products are easily transported to other regions and even States.
