Goslar is a historic German city located at the foot of the Rammelsberg mountain, famous for its mines for the extraction of silver. For millennia was one of the key mining towns of the region.
The town of Goslar, first mentioned in 922, when the ruler of the East Frankish Kingdom of Henry I the Fowler decided to establish a settlement. In a few decades, at the end of X century about Goslar the Rammelsberg mountain to open the mines for the extraction of various metals, preferably silver. The mines were worked for about 1000 years, and only in 1988 was finally depleted and closed. In their place was a Museum, still operating today.
Goslar is located in lower Saxony. It is difficult to call a favourite destination of the tourist flow to Germany. Interest is the historical centre with the above attractions. The city is located almost in the geographical center of the country, but in fact at a sufficient distance from major cities (for European standards). The largest of the nearby transport hubs – Hanover airport is 90 km from Goslar. An hour by train and you're in Goslar.
