Live webcam broadcasts in real time the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, commonly known as the Sanctuary of Fatima, is a group of Catholic religious buildings and structures in Cova da Iria. The centerpiece of the sanctuary is the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Fatima, a small town located in the Lisboya region of Portugal, would probably not be known to many today if it were not for the apparition of the Mother of God, who was visited by three little shepherds: 10-year-old Lucia, 9-year-old Francis and 7-year-old Hyacinth.

The "Mother of God" appeared for the first time, on May 13, 1917, near a small oak tree in the Cova da Iria valley, where a flock of sheep was grazed. From that day for five consecutive months, always on the 13th of the month (except for August). During the meetings, the Mother of God encouraged them to recite the Rosary every day. Then She gave a "secret" that still evokes many emotions. As confirmation of the authenticity of the phenomena, many people saw the "miracle of the sun": about 70,000 people gathered in Cova da Iria to see how the sun rotates on its axis, and then it seemed that it was falling to the ground. Interestingly, this phenomenon was also seen by people who were located a few kilometers from the site. The Catholic Church is considered a true phenomenon.

Sanctuary of Fatima

In accordance with Mary's request, a small, simple chapel called the Capelinha Aparições Das was built on the site of the apparition in 1919, which is the "heart" of the temple of Fatima. In front of the chapel, on a marble column, stands a statue of Our Lady of Fatima - exactly in the place where Mary appeared.

The statue, over 1 m high, was carved from Brazilian cedar. Mary wears a blue dress and coat, a rosary on her hands, and a crown adorned with 313 pearls and precious stones. Many years later, as gratitude for the salvation from the assassination attempt of John Paul II, the shrine was equipped. The Rosary is prayed here every day and Holy Mass is held.

The tallest building is the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima (Basílica de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima). A church with a 65-meter high bell tower, built entirely of local stone. Above the main entrance was a five-meter statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, made in accordance with Lucia's instructions. Inside the basilica there are 15 altars - reliefs dedicated to 15 secrets of the Rosary, colorful stained glass windows depicting the story of the revelation of the Mother of God in Fatima and the tombs of the shepherds: Francisco and Hyacinths Marto and Lucia dos Santos. The first two were declared Blessed in 2000, while Lucy's beatification process began in 2008.

Due to the large number of pilgrims who began to visit Fatima, it was decided to build a new church that could accommodate all of them. The work of the contemporary Greek architect Alexandros Tombasis was chosen in an international design competition. The construction was completed in 2007. As a result, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity (Basílica da Santíssima Trindade) has the shape of a circle with a diameter of 125 meters, a height of 18 meters and one fulcrum in the middle of the building. The church can accommodate more than 8,630 people. The temple was located in front of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, on the other side of the square.

The church has a simple form, but modern and rich in symbolism. The service door next to the tables of the 20 secrets of the Rosary is engraved in bronze. In the middle above the altar is a bronze crucifix, in the background is a huge gilded mosaic of the Lamb of God and angels and saints. On the left side you can see the intricate works of Our Lady of Francisco and the Hyacinths, a little behind - Lucia. Interestingly, the main altar is made from a solid block of local limestone.

In the square in front of the temple, there are statues of popes who especially worshiped Our Lady of Fatima: Pope John Paul II, Pope Paul VI and Pope Pius XII. However, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary contains a 2.6 tonne piece of the Berlin Wall hidden in a glass rotunda. This is thanks to the Portuguese emigrants living in Germany for their contribution to the collapse of communism.

Near the shrine is the Wax Museum on Rua Jacinta in Marto (Museu de Cera). The exhibition consists of 31 scenes depicting the events of the phenomenon at Fatima. An adult ticket costs € 7.5, children aged 7-12 pay € 4.5.
