By 1943, the Askold plant for the production of weapons for combat aircraft was built in record time, and a military aviation technical school was opened on the basis of Progress. After the war, "Askold" was retrained for civil engineering and shipbuilding. Now both enterprises are city-forming, and Arseniev is recognized as a single-industry town, the life of which directly depends on the work of Progress and Askold.

In 1952, Semenovka was given the status of a city named after the writer, scientist and researcher of the Far East Vladimir Arseniev.

The monument to this famous traveler is one of the main city attractions. Immediately after the change of Arseniev's status, a grandiose restructuring of the city began according to plans developed by a team of Leningrad designers. The typical development of the residential area to this day retains its resemblance to the old streets of St. Petersburg.
