Ussuriysk is a city in Russia, administrative center of the Ussuri urban district (until March 25, 2005 — district) of Primorye. Located on the Khanka plain in 112 km from Vladivostok on the river Komarovka and Rakovka, in the hollow between the hills. Founded in 1866 as the village of Nikolskoye, since 1898 the city of Nikolsk-Ussuriysk. Ussuriysk was founded in August 1866 as the village of Nikolskoye (in honor of St. Nicholas) 13 families arrived at the settlement from the Astrakhan and Voronezh provinces. From the Voronezh province had a family Ilyushenko. The rest came from villages Akhtuba Astrakhan, Bolkhuny, Kapustino, Cherny Yar, Krasny Yar and Enotaevsky district. 15 (28), 1868, the village was burned during the "Mentovskoj war." The war showed the important location of the village and the Governor-General M. S. Korsakov in June ordered to restore the village and to build barracks for the permanent accommodation of the garrison as part of a company inside an ancient fortress. Thus was born one of the largest garrisons of modern Primorye. Already in 1870 all the way from Stone-the Fisher transferred the headquarters of the 3rd line battalion with two companies. In 1871 in the village built the first wooden Church. In 1880 in the village are the 3rd and 4th battalions of the newly formed 1st East Siberian rifle brigade. In 1881 nicolici appealed to the authorities with the petition for conversion of village into town. The first school — parish — opened in 1883, Later (1896) was attached to the brick building (in 1999 on the basis of a brick extension was created the city Museum). In 1893 opened to traffic on the Ussuri railway between Vladivostok and St Nicholas. According to the 1897 census in St. Nicholas lived 8982 people (7007 males and 1975 females). In 1898, the village of Nikolskoye was granted city status and the name of the Nikolsk-Ussuriysk. Part of the city became the village of Nikolskoye, a village railway station Katricia and settlement Soulfunky. Later the number of inhabitants of the newly formed village were replenished by immigrants from the Ukraine, massively migrated to the South of the far East region of the Russian Empire
