The main square of Sevastopol was named after the admiral and naval commander Nakhimov, whose 12-meter monument adorns its center. Nakhimov Square is part of the architectural complex of the City Ring, located in the historical heart of Sevastopol. On the spacious territory near the monument, city events are often held - City Day, the celebration of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Day of the Navy. The square is bordered by another outstanding landmark of the city - the Grafskaya pier.

The works belong to the hand of the Italian sculptor Pellichio. The architectural ensemble of the pier is made of Inkerman stone, which has been used in the construction of the city since antiquity. In addition to sculptures, there are memorial plaques on the pier reminding residents and guests of the city of outstanding historical events.
The symbol of Sevastopol is the monument to the Scuttled Ships, located near the count's pier. This monument is also depicted on the emblem of the city. The monument was created in memory of Russian ships that were deliberately sunk to block the path of the enemy flotilla during the Crimean War. This happened in September 1854, when 7 ships were sunk across the fairway. Later, several more ships and frigates were submerged under the water, followed by the rest of the fleet of the South Side. Coastal batteries and sunken ships made the Sevastopol Bay impregnable until the conclusion of an armistice.
The composition is represented by an imitation of a granite rock, which rises 9 m above the sea at a distance of 23 m from the embankment. The rock is crowned with an octahedral pedestal with a Corinthian column that rises upwards. At the top, facing the sea, a bronze eagle with an imperial crown on its head spread its wings. In its beak, the bird holds a wreath of laurel and oak leaves, symbolizing victory and fortitude. And a sea anchor is chained to the wreath. On the eagle's chest there is a shield with a relief image of St. George the Victorious. From the side of the embankment, the base of the column is decorated with a bas-relief depicting a scene of the sinking of ships. A commemorative inscription is carved at the bottom. In continuation of the composition, but already on the shore, two anchors from the sunken ships are installed. They are attached to the retaining wall opposite the monument.
