Lomonosov webcam online - an amazing and unique suburb of St. Petersburg
Despite its small territory, it has preserved a huge cultural and historical heritage - monuments of architecture, monumental and landscape gardening art. They keep in themselves the memory of the greatness of Tsarist Russia. Therefore, everyone who is passionate about history and fine arts should visit here.
The central attraction of the city is the Oranienbaum Museum-Reserve
It was founded by Prince Menshikov, who received these lands as a gift from his friend Peter I. Alexander Danilovich built a magnificent palace here, which in its scope is not inferior to the famous Peterhof. An equally stunning garden was laid out around the Baroque residence.
Later, after the death of Peter the Great, the count lost his rights to these lands. They were owned by representatives of the royal dynasty. Each of them brought unique features to the look of Oranienbaum. So, for example, Emperor Peter III built here a funny fortress and a small palace with modest exteriors and luxurious interior furnishings.
Later, as a result of a coup d'état, Tsar Peter III was killed and the throne, as well as the estate, was received by Catherine II. On her initiative, the Chinese Palace and the Roller Coaster with a stunning pavilion were built on the territory of Oranienbaum. The roller coaster is a spacious area with straight and wavy wooden slopes. The complex of slides is located at a height of 20 meters, where the empress's associates got into special carriages and slid down. After that, the improvised sledges again climbed up along the side tracks equipped for this.
Unfortunately, only the stone pavilion has survived to this day. The slides themselves were destroyed in the 19th century. The surviving two-tiered building has white and blue facades, decorated with stucco, columns, sculptures, giving the architectural appearance an extraordinary lightness. Inside, the building is generously decorated with gilding, paintings, artificial marble.
Another object built on the initiative of Catherine II is the Chinese Palace
It is decorated in the spirit of the then fashionable hobby for oriental culture. The airy and graceful structure has numerous rooms, each of which is furnished in a unique manner. So, for example, there is a hall of muses with antique figures, as well as a glass-bead study, in which embroidered panels hang. A huge number of authentic souvenirs from China and Japan are placed in the Chinese cabinets. It is noteworthy that the structure has survived to this day almost in its original form.
