Kolomnais a cozy and intimate town with a long history, which is one of the most beautiful in the Moscow region. The first mention of Kolomna date from the late twelfth century, however, judging by the archaeological data – base of the city can be attributed to the middle of the XII century. One of the main historical treasures of the town is a magnificent example of defensive architecture – the Kolomna Kremlin, built in the mid XVI century It was a stone fortification, intended for the defense of the southern border of Muscovy from raids of Kazan and Crimean Tatars. There is a perception that the Kolomna Kremlin was built by the example of Moscow, the Italian architect A. Fryazin. This is indicated by the similarity of such elements of strength as loopholes, parapet with battlements, towers, and many others.
