Arkhangelsk, whose webcams can be viewed online on this site, is a glorious Arctic capital that wins the heart at first sight. The atmosphere of the Russian North reigns here in every corner.
A centuries-old history is reflected in almost every building. Many sights, bright events, stunning nature - all this will delight even sophisticated travelers.
The oldest building in Arkhangelsk is the Gostiny Dvor complex, which was built at the beginning of the 17th century. This place has long been a center of trade. The first building was built of wood. But as a result of a fire at the end of the 17th century, it was completely destroyed. After some time, the building was restored from stone. Later, when the center of the merchant class was moved to St. Petersburg, it was decided to dismantle the building as unnecessary. However, on the initiative of caring people, this historical building was completely restored already in our century. Today it belongs to the Arkhangelsk Museum of Local Lore.
Anyone who is interested in Russian wooden architecture should definitely visit the Malye Korely Museum. Its exhibits are located directly under the open sky and are examples of wooden architecture that were built at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries.
The territory of the museum, which occupies over 140 hectares, is divided into four sectors. Here you can see ancient churches, bell towers, chapels, houses of rich merchants and ordinary peasants, windmills and other buildings. In total, there are over 100 structures that are in amazing harmony with the surrounding northern landscape. Along with excursions, all kinds of festivals, national holidays, folk festivals, and craft fairs are held in Small Korela.
An important spiritual center of Arkhangelsk is the Antoniev-Siya Monastery. This medieval complex appeared on the shores of Lake Mikhailovsky in the 16th century. The monks who lived here gradually formed a huge library. There is also an engraving and icon-painting workshop, a printing house.
During the years of Soviet rule, the monastery was closed. After restoration in the 90s, this holy place once again delights parishioners with its quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
If it’s not possible to go to these places yet, Arkhangelsk webcams will help you visit this city virtually without leaving your home.
