The Park is named after Lieutenant Schmidt is one of the most famous places in Berdyansk, which is unlikely to miss even the first time came to this city as it is located almost in the center. Nowadays it is protected as a monument of landscape art of local importance.
This Park was founded back in the 70-80-ies of the XIX century by the then chief town and port by Peter Schmidt. At that time, the Park occupied a much larger area than the current 3.5 hectares. But it was named in honour not of its founder, and his son, Lieutenant Schmidt. The Park includes more than 70 species of shrubs and trees. In addition to the luxurious beds and beautiful landscaping, the Park abounds in monuments. In particular, the main entrance greets visitors with a bust of Lieutenant Schmidt, there in the Park and the monument to the children of Lieutenant Schmidt. The expressive sculptural group "Sailors of the great Patriotic war" near a mass grave dedicated to the 20th naval paratroopers of the Azov flotilla, who in 1943, died in the liberation of the city. In the Park is a large mansion of the merchant Trubetskogo, who served in the 30-ies of XX century a sanatorium for Soviet military pilots, and now is a music school.
