Egyptian authorities demanded from the EU to stop artificially curbing tourist flows
Until recently, tourists from Germany, which are among the most popular for popular tourist countries, were forbidden to leave the European Union. Now the restrictions have been lifted for 4 Turkish destinations (Antalya, Izmir, Aydin and Mugla). But other countries also want to get among the allowed. First in line Egypt and Tunisia.
After Germany cancelled warnings about the dangers of travel to Turkey, Egypt also demanded a similar solution from the German authorities for its destinations. The Egyptian Embassy substantiates this requirement by the fact that the number of coronavirus infections in the country has significantly decreased, and security measures are applied in large numbers.
Of course, a warning about the dangers of travel to a particular resort is not a ban. The purpose of such measures is to provide a deterrent effect. In addition, such warnings give travelers the opportunity to cancel booked tours for free.
Recall that the global bans, which were introduced from March 2020, were lifted in June in more than 30 directions within the European Union. But so far have acted for countries outside the EU. Since 4 August, restrictions have been lifted on Turkish provinces.
In fact, the number of infected people in Egypt is much lower than in Germany and other European countries, for which there are no prohibitions. The Egyptian authorities have already invited a delegation from Germany to familiarize themselves with the situation at the local resorts. Selected safe zones include Matrukh (Mediterranean Sea), Hurghada (Red Sea) and Sharm el-Sheikh (Sinai Peninsula). In these regions, zero coronavirus rates were recorded.
Also, tourists who return to Germany from Turkey must be tested for infection within 2 days before departure home, paying 15-30 euros for the study. Egypt is ready to provide the same testing procedure but for a smaller amount. Because for this country German tourists are the most important segment of the market from all over the EU. More than 1.8 million tourists from Germany visited Egyptian resorts during the 2019 season.
Tunisian authorities are also demanding that the German government remove artificial barriers for tourists, explaining that the resort has long been ready to restart the tourism sector.
Russian tourism experts say that the restoration of air traffic from Russia depends on how Germany behaves on certain routes. Once the Germany-Egypt destinations are resumed, Russia will follow suit.
