Saint-Petersburg, Leningrad oblast and Finland launch a joint tourism project Along with the two neighbouring regions of the Russian Federation, in the development and promotion of new tourist product will involve the border town of Finland, Imatra, Savonlinna, Mikkeli and Lappeenranta, which will be new locations.
Routes will be developed to attract foreign tourists in the low season, to create a tourist corridor for the attractive products of the tourism sector. This was stated by Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg Oleg Markov, noting that the development of all-season tourism is a priority for the tourism industry in the region. Also, the official noted that the project will be considered in any proposals for the organization of new activities and types of service.
Implementation of the program will be divided into three stages. In the coming year it is planned to organize large-scale marketing researches of requirements of tourists and in 2020 will begin to develop new routes of different topics and genres. Presentation of new tourism products through promotional and media channels is scheduled for 2021.
The aim of the programme for the next three years to raise awareness of the international tourism industry about the high potential of cross-border branches, including St. Petersburg and the Baikal region. Saimaa.
Funding for the project will be implemented by the European Union in the framework of the program for the development of cross-border cooperation in South-Eastern Finland and Russia, 2014-2020
