Thai government proposes working solution to launch mass tourism
One of the points of Thailand's new plan to restore tourism is to vaccinate all staff en masse and create "tourist bubbles" to ensure unhindered movement between countries. This is the first realistic proposal made at the level of officials. Regarding the first and most important point, the Ministry of Tourism sent an official request to the Ministry of Health for 5 million units of vaccine, which will be sent to the main tourist cities. These measures will ensure the safe operation of 2.5 million employees in the industry, including workers of restaurants, hotels, drivers, staff of spas and entertainment facilities. It is also planned to introduce an official boiler passport.
The mood for 2021 is optimistic for the authorities of the Kingdom: it is expected that local resorts will come to visit 5-10 million foreign tourists. Of course, these figures are many times lower in comparison with "before coronavirus" times. But given today's actual zero, the numbers are comforting.
In addition, fierce discussions continue at the level of senior officials over the adoption of the travel pact. The document should allow the movement without quarantine restrictions to vaccinated travelers between ACEAH countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei-Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia). The Ministry of Tourism is actively increasing the promotion and advertising of its tourist facilities, offering favorable terms and promotions. Negotiations are underway with hotels, carriers and operators to start selling complex packages to attract foreign guests.
At the same time, popular resorts at the regional level are trying to provide active support to the authorities. For example, Phuket's tourism business said it would vaccinate 70% of the island's population at its own expense without waiting for a national programme to be launched.
