Bali's popular beaches have become real landfills

Bali's popular beaches have become real landfills Tourist, as many think, is not only a source of pollution, but also an important income that allows you to pay for waste cleaning in tourist regions. The authorities of the popular resort island of Bali, whose beaches throughout the rainy season turned into huge landfills, were able to see this. If tourists have not appeared in the region for several months, the garbage is not gone. However, the funds to pay the thousands of cleaners who brought the facilities in perfect condition, now do not. 30-60 tons of various wastes were systematically removed from all beaches every day. Basically it is plastic, which is easily carried by waves and wind.

It would seem that the lack of visitors should have a positive impact on the environment. Contrary to popular myths, tourists not only pollute the space around them, but also force the authorities to maintain infrastructure and nature in an ideal order. With their money, they provided wages to an army of cleaners who worked almost around the clock. To date, most of the staff is either dismissed or sent on leave at their own expense - funds for their maintenance are simply not in the budget. Hotel occupancy in comparison with 2019 fell by 95%.

The Authorities of Bali are trying to resist the endless inflows of garbage from the last forces. All possible reserves are used. At the same time, there were days when workers cleaned 30 tons of waste per day, and after returning the next day noticed that their number increased almost twice to 60 tons. The situation will not be easier until the beginning of March.

Researchers involved in solving the problem note that in Bali, and in Indonesia as a whole, the recycling system is poorly developed. At best, many wastes end up in landfills, but more often they are simply dumped into the ocean, from where they are brought back ashore. Because of the unscrupulous attitude of some people to nature suffer all.

The borders of Bali continue to be closed to foreign visitors. Despite the deplorable situation and the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus, domestically, the government of the tourist island expresses optimism about the revival of the industry in the coming season.
