Uganda Tourism Committee asks guests to refrain from communicating with primates

Uganda Tourism Committee asks guests to refrain from communicating with primates In Uganda, after a long hiatus, all national parks have been reopened. Guests of the country are waiting for Mhiganda, Murcheson, Ruvinzori, Bwindi. They attract a large number of tourists. But authorities warn of the exclusion of contact with primates. The most dangerous, in terms of the possibility of transmission, are gorillas and chimpanzees.
To enter the country, it is mandatory to present a negative test on COVID-19. Laboratory research should be conducted no more than three days before departure. For the results of the tests on COVID-19, the minimum time before departure is four hours.
The coronavirus tests are also carried out before the flight home.
The Tourism Committee has developed mandatory recommendations to keep the distance between visitors to national parks. This applies to both social distancing and distance between humans and animals.
Gorillas and chimpanzees are not allowed to approach closer than ten meters. The distance between people should be at least two meters.
Half of the population of gorillas that exist on Earth live in Uganda. This species of primate is endangered. The natural environment in which they are located in Ugandan national parks contributes to the conservation and increase of the number of animals.
The state protects gorillas and chimpanzees, so it creates all conditions for their safety. The possibility of infecting monkeys from humans is definitely not confirmed, but, according to many infectiousists, is quite real. Therefore, the authorities have given such unprecedented recommendations.
Representatives of the Uganda Tourism Committee ask for understanding of the current problem of COVID-19 infection and the restrictions imposed in this regard. At airports, tourists are given memos that clearly depict all the requirements for safe stay in Uganda. If necessary, individual remedies and disinfection are issued. Masks, gloves and sprays are also in hotels and national parks.
