Theatre Square is located in the city center just behind the Golden Gate, the academic drama theatre. The name was given after 1970 there was built a new theater building, which was located on Gagarin street.
At the end of the XVI century, the area West of the Golden gate settled the drivers. According to historical sources, in the Vladimir Yamskaya Sloboda was a few streets with houses. street yard, blacksmith shops, two churches, the Kazan and St. Simeon Stylites, a cemetery.
Vladimir the terrible fire of 1778, completely destroyed the Horse quarter. At the place, Theatre square remained crowded wooden huts, farm buildings, and a few trees.
In the XIX century on the South side of Noble-street from the Golden Gate in the area of modern Theatre square was a fruit garden at the house Zhigalov and three two-story houses of the merchants Muzinich. In one of them before the revolution was located a famous photo Studio of Vladimir Jodco.
In 1913-1914 the place Theatre square formed by two buildings, preserved until now: on the site of the garden Zhigalova was built high Trinity old believers Church, and on the other hand, Vladimir publisher Isaiah Coil put the beautiful two-story mansion (the mid-1990s there is a House of art workers of the Vladimir region).
After world war II, in 1947, this area was planned to build the House of Soviets. For him, the demolition was subject to all the houses, Trinity Church and the Polish Church. The project was not implemented.
Theatre square could decorate another object - a monument to the founder of Moscow, Prince Vladimir the Baptist. September 14, 1996, during the celebration of the Day of the city near AUDREY, opened the Foundation stone at the future site of the monument by sculptor Igor Chernoglazov. The inscription on it reads "This stone has a will picture to be the monument of the founder of the city." But the monument on the Theatre square did not appear, apparently due to lack of funds. The Foundation stone several years later, the square disappeared.
