George Street is located in the historic center of Vladimir, in the former New town. Starts between houses № 24 and 26 on the Great Moscow street, a narrow alley runs past the Church of St George and then runs parallel to the Great Moscow street toward the ensemble of the Spasskaya and Nikolskaya churches along the crest of the coastal terraces high plateau, wherein the XII century, located the princely courts of Yuri Dolgoruky and Andrey Bogolyubsky. At the court of Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1129-1157 years was built the Church of St. George, and at the turn of XII-XIII centuries — the convent (abolished in the years 1712-1715), later gave its name to the street.
XVII-XIX century
The street was first mentioned in a document in the book scribe of the city of Vladimir 1625-1626 years where census takers listed "in Egorievsk street yards" and "yards in Egorievsk earth", inhabited by the clergy and loners of the Knyaginin monastery. On the ground plan drawing (the"Drawing") of the city of Vladimir, 1715, between high street and St. George monastery shows the construction of the St. George settlement. In near-modern shape — as the road that connects St. George and the Spasskaya Church — street appears on the plan of Vladimir 1781.
28 July 1778 St. George's Church and adjacent buildings were burned. In 1783-1784 years under the new plans, but on the same foundations and of old material has been built a modern building. At the Church, there was the cemetery, which, according to the parish books, continued to bury the dead until 1802. The time and circumstances of the disappearance of the cemetery and tombstones of buildings are not defined.
In 1805, St. George's street was opened the first in the Vladimir region state pharmacy. Until that time, the city existed only private pharmacy, founded in 1781 as a pharmacist by Christian Doering and located on the territory of the Nativity monastery.
In the XIX century, the Church land remained the areas to the West of the Church, where there was a wooden rectory with a garden, and to the South-East, where there is the house of deacon. The rest of the land became the private possession of pharmacists, petty officials, and commoners.
Until the mid-nineteenth century, the stretch of street from the present Vladimir descent to the Church of the Savior was a narrow and inconvenient, until in 1859, lived on the street, the merchant Yefim Balls was not asked permission "web layout" and his "entire St. George's street" because of "significantly elevated location and slope on one side, especially against Spassky Churchyard and Fire" and "safe passages". Under the supervision of the city architect, Eduard Teena street in 1860 was aligned.
In documents of the late XIX century for the street, first named St. George or Egor (George, George, and Egor — three versions of the same name), set the title of the Top Egorievsk. Lower'evskaya street called present Vladimir descent.
The twentieth century
Decree of the Presidium of the Council of 8 November 1923, the former Upper and lower Egor (George) street, in connection with the 6th anniversary of the October revolution was renamed the street of the red Profintern — in honor of the international organization of trade unions. In the mid-1930s, the former lower'evskaya street became known as the Vladimir descent. In 1949, the red Profintern street was paved.
In the summer of 1964 at the Old pharmacy was filmed an episode of the film "Balzaminov's Marriage", in which the mother of Misha met a matchmaker. In 1982, the street was shown in the film "Flights in dreams and reality".
In 1986, the beginning of the street of the red Profintern was reconstructed under the project "Vladimirelesale" under the direction of architect Igor Stoletov: the restored cobblestones and the old lights restored facades of a pharmacy and Church. The street has become one of the favorite places for walking among the citizens.
