Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, whose webcams can be viewed online on this site, is associated primarily with unique nature, volcanoes, hills, forests, lakes and, of course, the ocean.
However, along with amazing natural attractions in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, you can find a lot of man-made monuments of history, culture, and architecture.
You can learn about the formation of the city, the pages of its chronicle, unique facts about the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka in the Kamchatka Regional Museum of Local Lore. This is the oldest museum of the peninsula, which was opened in 1911. Its expositions tell about how Kamchatka was developed, what natural locations there are, what representatives of flora and fauna will be found in local forests, under the water of lakes and the sea.
Among the unique exhibits of the museum are the tusks of an ancient mammoth, the skull of a killer whale, and rare archaeological finds. Particularly valuable are old books of the 17th century, as well as three-dimensional models of birds. It will be interesting to look at infographics that tells about the structure of volcanic formations. In total, the museum's funds contain about 120 thousand items of storage.
Another institution of this kind is the Kamchatka Regional Art Museum. It opened after the collapse of the USSR and gathered under its roof the work of local masters. Later, the collection was supplemented by sculptures by artists from other regions. A separate part of the exhibition was made up of paintings by American painters who came here as part of a cultural exchange.
To date, the exhibition consists of 3.5 thousand works. These are examples of sculpture, painting, graphics, photographs, arts and crafts. Of interest are the works of local artisans, as well as photographic exhibitions depicting the life and cultural tradition of the indigenous population of Kamchatka. In addition to the exposition, the museum hosts themed evenings, lectures, and talks with artists.
The Museum of Volcanoes "Vulkanarium" appeared in Petropavlovsk later than all of them.
It was opened on the initiative of S. Samoilenko, a researcher at the Institute of Volcanology, in 2017. Its collection includes samples of volcanic rocks, three-dimensional models of volcanoes, infographics, as well as an extensive interactive exposition created with the latest technology. An excursion to this museum will be fascinating and informative not only for children, but also for adults.
For those who cannot go to Kamchatka right now, it is recommended to watch the webcams of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky online.
