Online broadcast from Freedom Square in Dobrich. The town of Dobrich is located among the Dobrujan Plateau in the northeastern part of Bulgaria. The city is located 512 km from Sofia, 51 km northwest of Varna and 37 km southwest of the border point with Romania - Zhovkovo. The city is the regional center. The city is the capital of the Golden Dobruji, the breadbasket of Bulgaria.
People have lived on the present territory of Dobrich since ancient centuries. The remains of a Roman settlement have been discovered in the city since the 4th century. In the 8th century, an ancient Bulgarian village was founded here. Numerous barbaric invaders and other nomadic tribes devastated the area. Life in the region becomes more peaceful during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
The modern city emerged in the 16th century as a large and lively market and craft village. The main roads from the Danube River to the Black Sea and from Eastern Europe to the inner part of the Balkan Peninsula pass through the city. Since 1882, the city was given the name Dobrich, in honor of the medieval Bulgarian governor Dobrostica, who owned these lands.
Until the 18th century, the population of the city was mostly of Turkish origin, but in the early 19th century, after the Russo-Turkish Wars (1810, 1828, 1845) numerous Bulgarian settlers from the cities of Audrin, Kotlen and Tyrgovishte settled in Dobrich.
In 1851, the famous fair in Dobrich was organized for the first time. It sells a lot of goods from the cities of Varna, Ruse, Shumen and others. George" was founded in 1843, and in 1844 the first school was built. The city's renaissance began in 1869 when it appeared: the city park, telegraph links with Varna, the post office and the hospital.
After the liberation of Bulgaria from the Turkish yoke, a railway was laid, which connected the city of Sepina-Dobrich-Kardam, and later it reached the Romanian city of Medgia.
Currently, the city is the center of the largest grain region of the country, called the "Shield of Bulgaria." The city is closely connected with the life and work of the great Bulgarian writer Jordan Zhovkov.
There are many museums and interesting places to visit in the city center: the historical museum "I. Jordan zhovkova", the Museum "Ethnographic House" which gives a rich idea of life, traditions, crafts, customs of Bulgarian groups who have moved here from different parts of the country.
