The construction of the stone royal palace began in 1717 under the guidance of the architect Braunstein. The building went down in history under the name "stone chambers" of Catherine I. The construction of the building was completed in 1724. A solemn event was held on this occasion. Then it was a typical example of Russian architecture of the early 18th century. and looked like a small two-story building.
During the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, it was decided to expand the building. This project was started by different architects, but continued by the famous master Rastrelli. In 1756, he presented a new capital building to the empress and foreign ambassadors. The palace is made in the Baroque style and delighted with an abundance of decorative elements. The facade of the palace was decorated with figures of Atlanteans, caryatids, lion masks and other stucco decorations. Near the northern building stood the Palace Church with five gilded domes. Above the front porch was a spire with a multi-pointed star. The front parade ground, which was enclosed by the palace wings, was finally completed in the same period.
The next stage in the improvement of this building in Pushkin, whose webcams allow you to enjoy the beauty of this building in real time, came with the accession to the throne of Catherine II.
She was fond of antique art, so she wanted to decorate her apartment in this style. Some of these halls were destroyed during the Great Patriotic War, but some survived. The rooms that were intended for the future Emperor Paul I, the restorers were able to recreate. These include: Green Dining Room, Waiter's Room, Front Blue Room, Chinese Blue Room, and Bedchamber.
