Feodosia is famous far beyond the Crimea for its unique art gallery of the brilliant marine painter I.K. Aivazovsky, as well as the ancient Genoese fortress and old dachas of the early XX century.
Another outstanding cultural and educational institution in Feodosia, which was founded at the beginning of the 19th century, is called the Museum of Antiquities. Today it is the oldest local history museum in the country. Its halls display the richest collections dedicated to the history and nature of the environs of Feodosia.
The exposition covers a wide time layer, from the first settlements on the territory of the peninsula to artifacts from the middle of the last century.
Here you can see the remains of ancient Greek dishes, coins, weapons and household items of the Genoese. Samples of the Black Sea and Crimean flora and fauna are exhibited separately. It will be interesting to look at the exhibition dedicated to the Karadag massif.
Particular attention is paid to the exposition revealing the events of the Great Patriotic War, the liberation of the city and the Crimean peninsula from the Nazi invaders.
Also within the walls of the museum are an old lapidarium with ancient tombstones and sculptures, as well as decorative architectural elements found on the territory of Feodosia and its immediate outskirts.
There are also several relatively modern museums in Feodosia
For example, the Tsvetaev sisters stayed in the city at the beginning of the 20th century. In their house, the atmosphere of that era has been recreated for certain, documents, photographs, personal belongings of the famous poetess and her sister are presented.
Feodosia was also home to the outstanding Russian writer Alexander Grin, the author of the famous novels "Scarlet Sails", "Running on the Waves" and other wonderful works. The house where the writer lived and worked today also houses a museum furnished in a nautical style.
Sky romantics should definitely visit the Hang Gliding Museum. Its exposition is dedicated to the history of aeronautics. The institution was founded by Konstantin Artseulov, the grandson of Ivan Aivazovsky. A pilot by profession, this man has collected unique materials that are now presented for everyone to see. It is noteworthy that one of the villages of the urban district of Feodosia, as well as the city itself, are to this day centers of aeronautical sports in the Crimea. There are special schools here, paragliding services are offered.
On the territory of the museum, in addition to a fascinating exhibition, there is a special flight simulator, where everyone can try their hand.
