The live webcam broadcasts the New Town Hall in Munich's Main Square in Germany. The New Town Hall is a magnificent neo-Gothic brick-and-stone building that occupies almost the entire northern part of the central square of Marienplatz, where the City Council, headed by Oberburgomist, sits.
The new town hall was built in three stages, between 1867 and 1909 under the direction of German-Austrian architect Georg von Howberrysser. The architectural style of the building became the style of neo-Gothic, very popular at that time - at the turn of the century.
The impetus for the construction of the New Town Hall was the fact that the city grew and, accordingly, increased the number of officials who at that time sat in the walls of the Old Town Hall, located a few dozen meters from the future New Town Hall. At present, the Old Town Hall is still in its former place on Marieplatz. The new town hall took the place where medieval buildings used to stand. Currently, the New Town Hall is a complex of buildings with courtyards and is the architectural dominant of the square, as well as one of the most impressive buildings in Munich, which is rightly called a pearl and one of the city's trademarks. The town hall is the residence of the mayor and the headquarters of the Munich City Council.
In addition, the walls of the town hall are: the hall of the exhibition center; Information and Tourism Centre; Cafes and shops located on the first floors of the town hall; and at the top of the town hall tower there is an observation deck giving its guests a 360-degree view of Munich. The main (going out on Marienplatz and having almost 100-meter length) and the western side (going out to the street Weinstrasse / Weinstrae) facades of the New Town Hall, made in the original neo-Gothic style.
The facades are richly decorated with turrets, carvings, figures of princes and Bavarian dukes, from the founder of the city Heinrich the Lion to the almost complete line of representatives of the Wittelsbach dynasty, as well as: legendary characters, saints, gargoyles and the mighty dragon Wurmek, reminding of the threat of the plague. At the top of the town hall tower, above the chime dial, there is a 360-gdarus observation deck, offering beautiful panoramic views of Munich and the surrounding area, including the Marienplatz square itself and the old city as a whole.
You can climb to the observation deck on two elevators. First, on the elevator to the 4th floor of the town hall (also you can walk up the stairs), then through the ticket office, which sells tickets, again on the elevator - directly to the observation deck. The observation deck is fenced with a grille. There are signs with information about what can be seen from the lookout.
