An online web camera shows Sevtopolis Square located in the center of Kazanlik, next to the Grand Hotel Kazanlik. The square hosts celebrations on the occasion of the Rose Festival, exhibitions, festive concerts, processions, national competitions and other public events.
The city of Kazanlik is located in Southern Bulgaria, in the Kazanlyk basin, known for its beauty and fertility. The climate here is moderate-continental with an average temperature of about 11 degrees Celsius. Summer swarm with plenty of rain.
Kazanlik is a city of roses and artists, a city with a rich history, which has preserved the traditions and remains of ancient cultures: Thracians and Romans, Slavs and proto-Bulgarians, and later Turks. The present Kazanlik originated in the early 15th century. During Ottoman rule, until the end of the nineteenth century, Kazanlik was known for producing rose oil, copper, wool fabrics and galuns. And now Kazanlik is the center of rose growing and rose oil production with centuries-old traditions.
The main attraction of Kazanlyk is the Thracian burial structure of the 4th century BC with murals, the so-called Kazanlyk tomb, discovered by archaeologists in 1944. This tomb is the only fully preserved monument in Bulgaria to paint the early Hellenic era and is protected by UNESCO as a monument of world importance.
The tomb is located in the northeastern part of the city, in Tulbeto Park. A special protective building with a climate control system has been built for it to ensure the preservation of the mural. Next to the original tomb is built its exact copy, which is open to visitors.
Another notable tomb is the tomb in Muglish, which is 3 km away. from Kazanlik. It dates back to the 3rd century BC.
Kazanlik is the natural geographical center of Bulgaria, where the routes of domestic and international tourism intersect. The nature of this region combines the beauty and majesty of the Balkans with the fertility of the Tunja River valley. And the Kazanlik rose is one of the symbols with which people associate the name of Bulgaria. In her honor every year in the first week of June, when this rose blooms, the city hosts the Rose Festival, which has turned into the most colorful event for both locals and visitors.
