Live webcam shows the central square of the small but vibrant city of Sparta.

The broadcast allows you to see the local architecture as well as the magnificent hills in the background. This city is just a few hours away from the Greek capital and is definitely worth a visit.

Peloponnese webcams allow you to take a short trip around the corners of this picturesque peninsula, which is located in the southern part of Greece and is washed by two seas.

It is on this stretch of land that the well-known Sparta is located.
An important role in the formation of Sparta was played by the ruler Lycurgus, who came to power in the 7th century. BC. It was he who became the author of the famous set of laws that controlled the entire Spartan life. So, society was divided into classes: Spartiats (free citizens), periecs (free, but deprived of the right to vote), helots (slaves). All citizens had to carry out military service, children did not receive education in regular schools, and physical development was above all.
Despite the terrible and sometimes even brutal laws, Sparta contributed to the development of the culture of Greece. Many heroes were born here, who glorified the country in the wars with Persia. The athletes of Sparta were the most enduring and physically fit of all.
That is why in ancient times this city was on an equal footing with Athens. There was a real rivalry between them, which led to the Peloponnesian War. She, in turn, led to the weakening of Athens and the collapse of the foundations by which Sparta lived. Because of this, the city first becomes part of Macedonia, and then goes under the rule of Rome.

Modern Sparta, which can be seen on the webcams of the Peloponnese, cannot be compared to Athens.

Of course, the capital has surpassed this small city, but here you can also join the Greek culture.
The main attraction of the city is the Acropolis. It is the religious, economic, political and cultural center of Ancient Sparta. Now there are various architectural monuments. Among them are the ruins of the Temple of Athena Copper House, which was built in the 6th century. BC. Also a white-stone amphitheater. It was the largest at that time and could accommodate about 16 thousand spectators. Here you can see the tomb of King Leonidas. According to legend, this king with 300 Spartans and 6 thousand soldiers from different cities of Ancient Greece stopped the 200 thousand Persian army.
Today's Sparta is famous not for its athletes, but for its well-developed industry. It became a place for the production of textiles, tobacco products and household chemicals. There are also many parks and squares, and the streets are lined with buildings from the 19th century.

This small town in the Peloponnese, whose webcams are available on the site, is worth a visit and be inspired by its ancient history, and at the same time admire the picturesque places.
